World Health Day

Happy World Health Day! This week is a time to recognize your overall health as priority in your life. There are times when we inadvertently neglect our health and wellness which takes a major toll on our mood and energy. What are the basics that we need to know with taking care of ourselves? Appetite, sleep, and hygiene. Practicing these basic essentials daily are the stepping stones to practicing overall wellness; what we do know is that it is not the only elements to making you complete.

World Health Day, established in 1948 by the World Health Organization (WHO), has always carried the focus of awareness toward specific health themes to highlight important health issues such as mental health, maternal and child, and climate change.

World Health Day 2021 is centered around “building a fairer, healthier world for everyone.” Concentrating on your overall health can make a positive impact to your environment. Beginning with the self can promote advantages to your society. It is also humbling to recognize that our efforts of practicing daily wellness in the Western Pacific region can present to us that taking care of ourselves can in fact instill the “adjust your oxygen mask before assisting others during flight” philosophy. According to the World Health Organization, “In recent years, countries in the Western Pacific have experienced rapid economic growth, migration and urbanization. This created opportunities for better lives for many, but left others behind. The COVID-19 pandemic has undercut recent health gains, pushed more people into poverty and food insecurity, and amplified gender, social and health inequities.”

World Health Day 2021 should put into perspective that efforts to give back to society begins with ourselves. Hopefully each one can teach one of the benefits that immaculate health can bring. Daily practice of exercise, meditation/praying, cleaning your environment, fresh air and sun, a balanced diet, hygiene, and sleeping well can all benefit to your holistic wellbeing!
